Fire Velo Jersey Presentation 2023

On August 26th, the final leg of the 2023 Fire Velo San Francisco to Los Angeles Cancer Awareness Ride we assembled at Los Angeles County Fire Station 70 for a Fire Velo jersey presentation along with Station 88. A wonderful day that included an awesome display of apparatus along with the crews.

Filling in for Los Angeles County Fire Chief Marrone was newly promoted Chief Deputy Jon O’Brien. Also, in attendance Assistant Chief Drew Smith and Battalion Chiefs John Harms and Mike Velasquez.  This truly made a difference to the families along with all who attended the presentation event.

Although the ride continued during post covid, we were unable to present our framed jersey to the Ed Dahlen family in 2021.  Ed’s family members, Becky and Jason (LAFD) were able to join us, unfortunately brother Jeff (OCFA) was working and unable to attend.

Captain Kenny Renz passed away April 23, 2023, and along with Kenny’s family members Demi and Kody (LACoFD) were in attendance, unfortunately brother Tanner (LACoFD) was out of county on a strike Team.

Over the 15 years that Fire Velo has put on the SF2LA Firefighters Cancer Support Ride, we carried the name of 5 firefighters each year on our sleeve who we’ve lost to cancer.  We hope someday we don’t have to add a name.

These 75 firefighters we have honored each year since the initial Fire Velo Fire Cancer Awareness Ride in 2009 represent the others within California that we lost and pay tribute to.
