This post is a day late as internet access and most any other kind of access in Big Sur is limited or non-existent.
Tuesday morning in Watsonville was cool and a bit overcast which is always good for riding.
Watsonville FD gave us a great continental breakfast which is a great way to start the day. We then gathered for send off pictures and the morning briefing and prayer.
Heading south, we made a quick stop in Moss Landing for more coffee and snacks.
Once back on the road, the pace picked up and we passed through beautiful Seaside, the former location of Army base Fort Ord. Into Monterey we regrouped and handled a small bike repair, had a quick lunch and continued to Carmel. The nice part about reaching Carmel is that is a mere 26 miles to Big Sur! The terrain is reasonably kind but it's still a long drop off the side if you make a mistake. We had one of our riders take a spill and the value of wearing a helmet paid off. The helmet cracked, but the head didn't and other than being sore the next morning all was good.
Finally arriving in Big Sur around 4 pm, there was enough time for a shower and a cold one, then off to a pasta dinner and an early night. Our riders would need a good night sleep as 90 miles from Big Sur to Morro Bay would await on Wednesday.
