Day 2 -
A nice cool morning greeted the riders after a send off from Half Moon Bay FD.
Seldom seen in past rides were two deceased deer on the shoulder, a stark reminder on flesh contacting metal.
Mechanical problems were minimal and everyone is still healthy.
The small town of Davenport provided a short rest stop. The Whale City Cafe has some of the best coffee, pastries and breakfast dishes within a 100 miles.
Tummies full and caffeine loaded it was a quick ride into Santa Cruz and a stop at the world famous "Santa Cruz Surfers Museum.
A couple of our cyclists wanted to ride a couple of waves, but it was time to press on to Watsonville.
Leaving Santa Cruz and working our way along the highlands and into farm country which supplies so much of our countries fruits and vegetables, we arrived in Watsonville. Our hosts positioned one of their aerials with the U.S.
Flag waving proudly and saying, "Come on in guys and gals your job is done for today. A job well done"!
Watsonville Local 1272 served us a delicious tri tip and chicken dinner complete with peach cobbler and ice cream.
After dinner our cancer group(s) staff gave a short talk about their organizations and encouraged everyone to have regular screening for skin, colon and other cancers that hit firefighters especially hard.
A big thank you to Watsonville Local1272 and their families for their hospitality!
Tuesday, the 21st, it's Watsonville to Big Sur!!
Till next time.
