Day 1 is in the books!
29 Cyclists set off from Sausalito Station 1 this morning at 0900 hours. Sausalito firefighters hosted us this morning with coffee, doughnuts and bagels. The usual fare for firefighters.
FireVelo President Jim Berklite presented framed jerseys to the families and representatives of 2 Bay Area members who passed away from Line of Duty Cancer.
The highlight of the first day was riding over the Golden Gate Bridge in the usual cold and fog.
Staying along the coast down the "Great Highway" and into Pacifica before the climb up "Devil's Slide" and the drop into Half Moon Bay.
Everyone did well and the only oddity was the multiple flat tires. Must need more CalTrans sweeping and some better eyes on the road.
Cold and hungry, the riders arrived at HMBFD around 2pm for a firehouse BBQ. Burgers, hot dogs and potato salad. Finishing with cake and coffee.
After the tables were cleared, our cancer group folks made a short presentation to our hosts. The sharing of these cancer survivors stories with our hosts helps to educate and remind us of the need to be vigilant every day.
Tomorrow we are off to Watsonville by way of Santa Cruz. A mere 70 miles.
Thanks for listening.
